Before leaving AlterEyes in september of 2022 to start as a freelance developer and professor I got the chance to start the development on BigShots
at the beginning of 2022.
While of course all of the credit of the finished game goes to the amazing team at AlterEyes
, I did get to work on a number of cool systems for BigShots.
Developing for the Quest 2
VR headset brings with it a whole lot of limitations. It fell on me to find out how to get an ambitious project like BigShots to even run at all on a Quest.
In the end we used a combination of techniques
like setting up a light baking pipeline, atlassing textures and optimizing renderers with hierarchical LODs and batching.
